The Palestinian National Committee to Boycott Israel, the most extensive coalition within the Palestinian community and leading the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, emphasized that the United Arab Emirates is actively involved alongside Israel in the campaign to destroy the Gaza Strip and exposed the role of UAE and Israel in Gaza Destruction.
Statement and Collaborative Call
In a released statement, the committee reiterated its call, which it initially issued in collaboration with numerous parties, unions, associations, syndicates, and human rights organizations in the Arab world. During this initiative, they urged a boycott of all entities, events, and activities organized by the UAE.
Additionally, the committee urged a boycott of all companies and organizations—whether Emirati, Arab, or international—that are part of the UAE-Israel coalition.
The Role of UAE and Israel in Gaza Destruction: Military-Security Alliance
This statement asserts: “Since the initiation of Israel’s genocidal operation against our people in the Gaza Strip, the UAE government has openly declared its complete and unequivocal support for the Israeli war machine and endorsed the actions of this regime in Gaza. It has underscored its commitment to the military-security alliance with Israel.”
The statement further notes: “To the extent that Abu Dhabi emerged as one of the options to aid Israel, attempting to rationalize this genocidal war that, at the time of this statement, has resulted in the loss of over 18,000 Palestinian lives.”
Escalation of Aggression and Betrayal
The statement highlights: “While non-Arab nations at the global level expelled Israeli ambassadors and called for accountability of Israeli wrongdoers in the face of these crimes, the treacherous role of the UAE, along with nations seeking normalization with Israel, became increasingly evident. This undermined official Arab efforts, neutralized regional meetings, and contributed to the failure in making impactful and practical decisions. Consequently, Israel’s military aggression persisted and the people of Gaza, who persist in their resistance, endure heightened suffering as they steadfastly offer their lives and blood for Palestine and their homeland.”
Treacherous Role of the UAE
The Emirati rulers went beyond this, taking an unprecedented action that contradicts historical Arab stances recognizing the struggles of the Palestinian people, a recognition also upheld by international laws. Not only did they deem these struggles, defending Palestinian lives, property, and land, as illegitimate, but within the UAE, they suppressed every voice that arose in support of the Palestinian cause. Furthermore, using their oil dollars, they attempted to secure the allegiance of cultural and media organizations and centers towards Israel, actively backing the normalization process.
On both regional and strategic fronts, the UAE government surpassed mere normalization, endorsing all colonial measures aimed at bolstering the influence of Israel’s colonial and apartheid regime in the region. This move has the potential to undermine the interests of nations within the region.
Land Route Agreement and Suez Canal Threat
In this context, a recent agreement was signed for a land route between Haifa and Dubai. This entails the establishment of a land bridge originating from Dubai, traversing Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and culminating at the port of Haifa in Israel. The purpose is to ensure the fulfillment of Israel’s requirements in case maritime threats from Yemen impede the delivery of goods by Israeli ships through the sea.
This agreement is viewed as a direct menace to the Suez Canal, which serves as the economic and strategic core of Egypt and the region. Consequently, it poses a significant risk to the national security of both Egypt and the surrounding Arab nations.
Failed Attempts and Ongoing Resistance
Despite the UAE-Israel coalition’s unsuccessful attempts to leverage international gatherings for the normalization agenda—thwarted by boycotts, protests, and demands for an immediate ceasefire—the rulers of the UAE and other Arab regimes persisted in taking photographs with Israeli war criminals during the Climate Summit (COP26). This action is seen as an attempt to obfuscate Israel’s offenses against the Palestinians and legitimize the actions of the Israeli regime.
Persistence During Global Events
Furthermore, on the sidelines of the Climate Summit (COP28) and as part of the normalization agreement, a new memorandum of understanding was signed between Israel and the UAE for collaboration in the field of electricity connection. The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) signed agreements linking Cyprus and Greece to Israel through their respective energy infrastructures.
Historical Actions and Acquisitions
Our people will eternally remember, and history will not overlook, the joint actions of the UAE government and the regimes involved in the Abraham Accords. They played a role in acquiring a quarter of Israel’s military exports to Gaza in the year preceding the genocidal war, amounting to approximately 3 billion dollars. Additionally, they partook in security and military exercises organized by Israel, and the American air bases within their territories served as more than just a logistical support; they effectively acted as an air bridge for arming and equipping Israel’s military during this war.
The betrayal by Arab regimes will never diminish the unwavering support of Arab nations for our ongoing struggle against Israel and the threat it poses to the people of the region. It does not deter us from persisting in our struggle and resistance against the occupiers until we secure the rights to freedom, justice, return, and self-determination.
Call to Action for Global Resistance
The Palestinian National Committee for Sanctioning Israel reiterates its call to the people of the region and the global community, including the citizens of the UAE, to persist in resisting normalization with Israel. It urges all to scrutinize the human dignity of the people in the region, particularly the Palestinian nation.
